The Culture

When you think of Mexico, you probably think of sombreros, hot peppers, and tacos! In fact, that is part of Mexico, but there is so much more! Cuernavaca, Mexico, is rich in culture and tradition. It’s a city filled with vibrant colors of the merchant’s goods, towering pyramids, and great food on every corner. The Mexican people are very traditional—even cooking their own homemade tortillas!

The People

The traditional Mexican is Catholic. The entire country is influenced by the Catholic Church and/or mysticism. Mysticism and the superstition that it entails came from the tribes that used to live on the land. These practices have been carried through the ages and still affect the people’s everyday life. Catholicism is the same. Steeped in the oldest traditions, many people are blind to the true Word of God. There is a need to reveal what the Bible truly says.

The Missions Work

Opportunities to witness for Christ are everywhere in Mexico but the best place to reach many is through schooling. Since the people are so steeped in tradition getting to work with the young people, who may not be as set in those traditions, is a gateway to spread the truth of Christ. Each year, the Lord has allowed YOM’s team to be able to plant a seed in the young people of Mexico. We are there helping established Christian ministries further their goals to reach children for Christ.
